OAK LAWN PUBLIC LIBRARY

BOARD POLICY

RESOURCE SHARING

The Oak Lawn Public Library is committed to the principles of resource sharing. The Library participates in reciprocal borrowing and interlibrary loan to expand access to information for residents of Illinois. As a member of various resource sharing groups, the Oak Lawn Public Library complies with the American Library Association’s (ALA) Interlibrary Loan Code for the United States, the ILLINET Interlibrary Loan Code set by the Illinois Secretary of State, the Reaching Across Illinois Libraries (RAILS) Resource Sharing Policy, and the System Wide Automated Network (SWAN) Circulation Policy.

Public libraries in Illinois offer reciprocal borrowing that allows card holders from one library to borrow materials in person at another library. Oak Lawn Public Library card holders in good standing may use their cards at libraries across Illinois and, in cooperation, patrons from around the State may use their card in good standing to borrow materials at the Oak Lawn Public Library.

Interlibrary loan is the process by which a library requests material from, or supplies material to, another library. The Oak Lawn Public Library shares resources as much as collections and workloads allow. Requests for materials in collections outside of Illinois may have restrictions and may require a fee. The staff will honor all limitations set by sharing libraries.
