OAK LAWN PUBLIC LIBRARY

BOARD POLICY

SERVICE FEES

The Oak Lawn Public Library provides a basic level of free access to information in a variety of formats. Access to information is integral to the Library’s mission:

The purpose of the Oak Lawn Public Library is to assemble, preserve, and provide access to information in a variety of formats to serve the educational and recreational needs of the community; to promote and stimulate the communication of ideas, fostering enlightened citizenship and the enrichment of personal lives; and to encourage and provide all citizens the opportunity and resources for life-long learning.

However, there are limits to what the Library can provide from public funds. Costs for Library services or associated recovery fees will be determined by the Board of Trustees in accordance with the following guidelines:

  • Fines may be levied as a means of protecting the basic level of access to materials for all users;

  • Fees may be established when an enhanced service is provided as an alternative to an existing basic service;

  • Fees may be established when the service benefits one user to the exclusion of others or prevents re-use of the information provided;

  • Fees may be established to recover costs associated with consumables.
