Let Reading Take You: to the 1960s
Let reading take you everywhere this summer! Step back in time to visit one of the most iconic decades of all time
The 1960s was a time of change, innovation and liberation. Although the Vietnam War dominated the headlines, the decade also saw the launch of the feminist movement; Motown and the Beatles blasted from radios and stereos; Sound of Music, Mary Poppins and Psycho filled theatres; the space program raced to land a man on the moon (which they did); the nation mourned JFK, MLK and RFK. It was also the beginning of the Peace Corps and Sesame Street; peace marches, civil rights marches, sit-ins, hippies and Woodstock captured our attention. The Baby Boomers were coming of age!
Return to that time with our summer reading theme this week! Stop at the display on the second floor where we have a collection of books, DVDs and CDs that capture the best and the worst of that transformative era.
