Title: Fish in a Tree
Author: Lynda Mullaly Hunt
Lexile Level: 550L
Pages: 288
Fish in a Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt is a well-written, inspiring story about maintaining strength while facing difficult, seemingly impossible problems. The story centers on Ally who is barely able to read and write, but successfully fools her teachers by avoiding situations and causing distractions. Ally has been transferred to many different schools, and her problem has gone largely unnoticed until her newest teacher, Mr. Daniels, pinpoints the problem – a learning disability called dyslexia. As Mr. Daniels works with Ally to improve her reading skills, he imparts valuable wisdom in the form of an Albert Einstein quote. As Ally’s self-confidence grows, so do her school friendships and family relationships.
