Title: City of Ember
Author: Jeanne DuPrau
Lexile Level: 680L
Pages: 288 pages
Summary: In the city of Ember there is no sunlight. The only light comes from the lamps that are throughout the city. This is because the city of Ember is underground. For 250 years people have lived happily in Ember. But now the lights are starting to flicker and go out. Periodic blackouts have the city’s residents frightened. What happens if the lights go out permanently? Doon and Lina are 12 years old and seem to be the only ones worried about finding a solution to the electricity problem. But will they succeed before Ember goes dark for good?
Recommendations or Comments: Highly recommend. This is a great dystopian series for the younger crowd. Also a good reminder that our resources are not endless.
