Title: The House That Jane Built
Author: Tanya Lee Stone
Lexile Level: 810L
Pages: 32 pages
Recommendations & Comments: Because I'm an older person, I'd heard of Jane Addams and Hull House, but I don't think I ever really learned the details of her life until now. This picture book biography tells how Addams used her own wealth in a poor community to provide services to the needy. What I respected most was that she didn't simply send money or visit -- she moved there and lived among the people she helped. The words and illustrations perfectly show plenty of examples of how she made an impact on people's lives, from playgrounds to jobs. More details are included in the end.
