Library Positions

General

The Library utilizes a formal method of classification of positions. There are 12 grade levels of positions (excluding the Director), and each grade has a specific salary/wage range. Grade levels are based on the type of work performed and education/experience required. Many of the Library positions require physical abilities which are encountered in maintenance work, service desk work, and re-shelving of materials such as standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, climbing, etc.

It has been the Library's experience that position vacancies most likely will occur with part-time positions, and turnover has been very low. Positions most often filled with external candidates: part-time Page, part-time or substitute Receptionist, part-time Maintenance Assistant, part-time or substitute Library Assistant, part-time Technical Maintenance Assistant, part-time Computer Technician, part-time or substitute Library Associate, and part-time, substitute, or full-time Librarian. Refer to Position Descriptions and Qualifications Requirements for specific information on these positions.
